5 Reasons why Brock Lesnar won the WWE Championship again at Elimination Chamber 2022

Brock Lesnar is the WWE Champion again. He is now a 10-time world champion, joining the likes of Edge, John Cena, Randy Orton, and Triple H as elite superstars who have won ten or more world titles in WWE.

It was an unfortunately expected outcome as many fans dreaded the champion vs. champion, title vs. title idea. However, Lesnar kept his promise and that will be how the WrestleMania main event plays out.

Bobby Lashley didn't even get a chance to begin his title defense as he was written out of the match with a storyline concussion. It was a move to protect Lashley, but that means that there won't be any RAW Superstar in a world title match this year at The Show of Shows.

That seems to be a bizarre decision, and in many ways it is. However, looking at the other perspective, here are a few possible reasons why Brock Lesnar regained the WWE title at Elimination Chamber 2022:

#5. Brock Lesnar losing could open the window for Drew McIntyre

When talking about the Roman Reigns-Brock Lesnar storyline, it feels as though Drew McIntyre is the one taking the biggest loss in all of this. Looking at his position right now, it's unfortunate.

He could and likely would have been Reigns' Universal title challenger had it not been for Lesnar. There is no other top babyface on SmackDown who can credibly challenge Roman Reigns, and The Scottish Warrior would be in the perfect position to kickstart a third world title reign.

McIntyre as the WWE Champion was incredible, even without a crowd. Every premium live event match that he had delivered, and there was no doubt that he was the superstar of the year in 2020.

A local ad for people of Worcester, MA advertised Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre for the upcoming live event on April 15th, 2022. This could be a big indicator that WWE is planning a Reigns vs. McIntyre feud post-WrestleMania.

Assuming that Roman Reigns is victorious, he will be a double champion. By that time, he will also be 580+ days into his Universal title run. WrestleMania Backlash is on May 8th, meaning that he can complete 600 days before potentially dropping the Universal title to Drew McIntyre.

He won't lose too much then because he will still continue as the WWE Champion. This is the only possible way that there is a positive outcome from Lesnar's title win.

#4. Brock Lesnar winning may have been influenced by the WrestleMania Night One main event

Brock Lesnar winning the WWE title means that there will be no representation from RAW in any world title match this year at WrestleMania. There won't even be two world title matches.

However, in WWE's eyes, it seemed to be an ok time to do it because there is already one big main event for Night One of WrestleMania 38. Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey is the obvious pick to go on last, although some would argue that Becky Lynch vs. Bianca Belair would be the better option.

In terms of pushing full-time superstars, the RAW Women's Championship clash would be the better pick. But WWE is a business and for an event like WrestleMania, they need marquee top stars and top matches.

No matter how much people like to criticize Rousey, she is the reason why WrestleMania 35 was the first to ever be headlined by women.

If it happens again this year, then it will be the third women's WrestleMania main event. The fact that it can go so unnoticed is a sign of progress. Brock Lesnar's WWE title win may have also been influenced by the fact that there is a readymade main event for Night One of The Show of Shows.

#3. Brock Lesnar winning has bigger implications than we think

As much as Brock Lesnar's WWE title win was dreaded by a large section of fans, the company had more than one incentive to put the title back on him. Primarily, the most marketable WrestleMania main event would be a champion vs. champion, title vs. title match.

WWE has sold a lot of tickets for WrestleMania 38, but this could prove to boost ticket sales even more. Six years ago, Shane McMahon's return and match with The Undertaker helped WrestleMania 32 ticket sales massively.

However, it's also the best way to cap off the trilogy of WrestleMania matches. The company knows that after April 4th, there will be no turning back at the Roman Reigns-Brock Lesnar feud. This will be the conclusive chapter of what might be one of the defining rivalries of this era.

It's more than just a big title vs. title match for many fans. These are the two undisputed top stars of WWE at the moment, and many big implications come with the title vs. title bout.

The only other superstars to have WrestleMania trilogies are The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, and Triple H. The Stone Cold vs. The Rock trilogy headlined the event twice but didn't in their third bout at The Grandest Stage of Them All.

The Undertaker vs. Triple H happened at WrestleMania 17, 27, and 28. None of their bouts headlined the show. Reigns vs. Lesnar will mark the only WrestleMania main event trilogy in WWE history.

#2. Brock Lesnar reportedly pushed for the win himself

Brock Lesnar is one of the few superstars in WWE to have any creative control at all. While Roman Reigns is believed to have a level of creative control, the extent of it seems unknown. Edge is another superstar who reportedly has it, as did Daniel Bryan before he left the company.

However, Lesnar seemingly gets to say and do whatever he wants. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, The Beast Incarnate internally pushed for a title vs. title match at WrestleMania.

"Definitely something being talked about internally and something Lesnar was pushing for. Lesnar was the favorite followed by [Bobby] Lashley and then [Seth] Rollins."

This is another case of Lesnar getting what he wants. It's not a great look when a superstar pitches the idea of pushing themselves that match. Edge reportedly did something similar in 2021 by pitching to win the Royal Rumble and headline WrestleMania.

However, it's hard to blame Brock Lesnar when he enjoys a privileged position that nobody else on the roster is in.

#1. Brock Lesnar will give Roman Reigns his ultimate WrestleMania coronation

As much as some fans will hate to hear it, WWE was never going to avoid another Roman Reigns-Brock Lesnar match at WrestleMania. When they faced off in 2015, it was Seth Rollins who won after cashing in the Money in the Bank briefcase.

In 2018, Lesnar won clean in a surprising decision. While Reigns has gone on to beat The Beast Incarnate multiple times since then, it hasn't happened at WrestleMania. It's a very different Roman Reigns that we're seeing now than the one in 2015 or even 2018, for that matter.

He is already the guy, but this will be his ultimate coronating moment. To finally beat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania as well as becoming a double-champion. The last time Reigns competed in the AT&T Stadium, he dethroned Triple H to become the WWE Champion in one of the most underwhelming WrestleMania main events of all time - but that wasn't his fault either.

Lesnar's role in all of this is to eventually elevate Reigns, and that's what is going to happen at WrestleMania 38.
