Seth Rollins must go on to defeat Roman Reigns at WWE Royal Rumble

Roman Reigns will defend his Universal Championship against Seth Rollins at the WWE Royal Rumble. Adam Pearce handpicked Rollins to take on The Tribal Chief at the pay-per-view.

The Visionary has a lot of experience competing against Reigns. The two men have already fought against each other 29 times.

The Royal Rumble will be the first time the two men meet with the Universal Championship on the line. Rollins has a good chance of winning the title, but The Tribal Chief has been just too dominant in recent months.

However, it will be interesting to see how Reigns holds up without Paul Heyman by his side. Rollins' new heel side could also prove to be too much for The Head of the Table.

There are several reasons why a victory for the RAW Superstar will be beneficial for the company. Rollins is a stellar performer, and he could win the title before trading it with Brock Lesnar and moving back to his brand. The two champions could even just take their respective titles to their brands without any swaps.

Having said that, let's take a look at five reasons why Seth Rollins should defeat Roman Reigns to become the new Universal Champion at the 2022 Royal Rumble:

#5. Seth Rollins is one of the top WWE Superstars who can defeat Roman Reigns

Seth Rollins is one of the few former Universal Champions who hasn’t faced Roman Reigns for the title yet. Reigns has faced some of the toughest superstars in WWE to defend his title. He has defeated Daniel Bryan, Edge, Finn Balor, Brock Lesnar and many other top superstars during his phenomenal reign.

The creative team needed to think outside the box to book a top contender for Reigns’ title at the WWE Royal Rumble. That’s why Seth Rollins was chosen from RAW to take on the big man from SmackDown.

Rollins is arguably one of the greatest wrestlers in the industry today and is at the same level as Roman Reigns. With that in mind, it makes sense that the creative team decided to book a RAW Superstar to challenge the Universal Champion.

The Visionary is also someone who can realistically defeat Reigns for the title without chipping away at his value. Rollins has already defeated top names such as John Cena, Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton in the past.

With the unavailability of Drew McIntyre, he seems like the perfect man to defeat Reigns without denting his image on SmackDown. He is someone who should become the next Universal Champion as he is doing a great job with his gimmick.

#4. Seth Rollins can put Roman Reigns in the chase for a WWE title for the first time in over a year

Seth Rollins has won some of the biggest matches in WWE’s history. He can give Roman Reigns a tough fight for the Universal Championship on a big stage.

Reigns won the Universal Championship at WWE Payback in August 2020. Since then, The Tribal Chief has remained undefeated whenever his title is on the line. Reigns did not have to wait long to win the title after returning from a hiatus. But the creative team could finally put him in the chase for a title if The Visionary wins it at the Royal Rumble.

Fans have watched how a villainous Reigns can lead the SmackDown brand with the Universal Championship. If he loses his title to Seth Rollins at the Premium Live Event, then the creative team could look to build a great rivalry for him to get back to the top of WWE.

Reigns does not have Paul Heyman by his side. The creative team could build a different storyline for The Tribal Chief to get back in contention for a top title. This would allow for some fresh bookings and a possible character change for The Head of the Table.

#3. A win for Seth Rollins could shake up the WWE Royal Rumble match

Seth Rollins has won the Royal Rumble once in his career. He went on to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 35 and was successful at winning it.

Meanwhile, Roman Reigns won the Royal Rumble in 2015. He wasn’t part of last year’s Royal Rumble match as he was holding the Universal Championship at the event.

With no clear favorites to win this year’s men’s match, the creative team could look to book something massive and give fans a big surprise. Rollins could go on to defeat Reigns for the Universal Championship earlier in the show.

The Tribal Chief can then enter the 30-man match as the last entrant to win the contest and score a headlining match for WrestleMania. WWE can then put Reigns up against Brock Lesnar at The Show of Shows to turn their storyline upside down.

A victory for Seth Rollins could lead to some massive angles that could give fans great moments to remember. Reigns entering the Royal Rumble would turn out to be a great moment for the night. Therefore, Rollins should go on to defeat Roman Reigns at the upcoming pay-per-view.

#2. A victory for Seth Rollins at Royal Rumble would save WWE from unifying the two top championships

Before the Roman Reigns-Seth Rollins match was made official, WWE Champion Brock Lesnar offered Reigns the chance to compete in a massive match. Lesnar offered Reigns the chance to compete in a title vs title match.

The stipulation would mean that the winner would take home both championships and likely unify the titles. The company could plan to make the match the main event for WrestleMania.

The move could damage the company's top card. If Reigns retains his title at the Royal Rumble, then the creative team will likely book a match between the two top champions at WrestleMania.

However, a win for Rollins at the Royal Rumble would help WWE avoid the booking. Rollins could free Reigns to do something different at WrestleMania. The Tribal Chief could go on to challenge Lesnar for his title after losing the Universal Championship.

It would allow the creative team to book a headlining match between The Beast Incarnate and Reigns without worrying about unifying the two top titles.

#1. Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch can work on a rivalry with Edge and Beth Phoenix for WWE WrestleMania

Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch have held the top titles in WWE together in the past. The duo took on Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans to defend their Universal and RAW Women's Championships respectively.

WWE could look to book an even bigger match for the couple at WrestleMania. Lynch will defend her title at Royal Rumble against Doudrop. She will likely retain her title at the Premium Live Event.

Meanwhile, Rollins could go on to win the Universal Championship from Roman Reigns. The win would allow The Visionary to get back on top.

WWE can then switch Rollins' and Brock Lesnar's titles and allow the former to move back to RAW. Lesnar can move back to SmackDown to continue his rivalry with Roman Reigns.

Edge and Beth Phoenix can move into the championship picture following the move. Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins already have a past with the legendary duo that can provide the creative team a genuine plot to build a great storyline around.

WWE could look to book a monumental mixed tag team match for the titles at WrestleMania between the couples.
