Ross Reisner and Kevin Murray were long-time lovers. Reisner was a very well-respected equestrian in the Long Island area of New York. He helped train numerous star equestrians for decades and was a treasured presence at major equestrian events such as the Hampton Classic.

Kevin Murray was a local contractor and lived with Ross Reisner. They lived in a three-bedroom, two-bath home in East Setauket, New York. Unfortunately, their love story came to an abrupt end after Reisner (50 years old) was shot at by a gunman, from outside the house. The murderer was later identified as their ex-tenant Brett Kight.

The shocking details about Ross Reisner's murder have been discussed in the upcoming Investigation Discovery series titled Fatal Eviction. An excerpt from the synopsis of the series reads:

Ross Reisner and Kevin Murray were respected residents of East Setauket, New York. They were enjoying a quiet night when Brett Knight, a former tenant, shot at him through the window. The incident took place on September 24, 2013, at around 8:45 pm as per the New York Post.

As reported by ABC News, Knight used a .40 Smith and Wesson handgun to shoot Resiner 11 times. He was shot in the chest and his partner Kevin Murray was only grazed by a bullet and avoided any serious injury. Reisner was rushed to the Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The police led a nationwide search for the Reisner's killer. They termed the killer as "armed, volatile, and extremely dangerous". The Suffolk Police were aided by U.S. Marshals and Sevier County Special Operations Response team in the search for Reisner's killer.

Their search led them to Tennessee. The killer, identified as Brett Knight was found inside a house in Seymour County, and taken into custody. The U.S. Marshals also reported the recovery of two .40 handguns believed to have been used for murdering Ross Reisner.


Why did Brett Knight shoot Ross Reisner?

Brett Knight was a former employee of American Express. He and Reisner knew each other for more than two decades and shared cordial relations until Knight was fired from his job by American Express.

As per a court document obtained by ABC News, Knight filed a complaint in 2009, claiming that his superiors had discriminated against him, resulting in him losing a high position at American Express.

Knight said he was alienated at his workplace as soon as his management found out he was gay, due to an HIV diagnosis. He blamed Reisner and Murray for aiding his termination. He was also evicted from their house in 2010 following a major argument.

As per The New York Post, Knight started sending harassing messages to the couple ever since. Brett Knight was later tried in a Suffolk Court in 2015. The jury found him guilty and was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
