Cameron Davis is currently leading the Sony Open in Hawaii after the first 18 holes. He finished the first round with a score of 8-under 62, with a performance that included nine birdies and one bogey.

Davis, 28, hails from Sydney Australia, where he was introduced to the game of golf. His amateur career was very successful and positioned him as one of the best in the category.

Cameron Davis won the 2014 Victorian Amateur Championship and a year later won the Australian Amateur and the New South Wales Amateur Championship. In 2016, he led the Australian team that conquered the Eisenhower Trophy and won the individual event as well.

That same year, Cameron Davis turned professional and played his first PGA Tour tournament, the OHL Classic in Mayakoba. Davies could not have had a better debut, as he finished T15 in that tournament.

Davis then qualified to play on the PGA Tour Canada in 2017 but was unable to establish himself and lost his card after just one season.

The Australian quickly rebounded from these initial stumbles. After finishing the season on the PGA Tour Canada, he returned to the Australasian circuit and won his first professional tournament, the Emirates Australian Open. In addition, he participated in the Q-School of the Web.com Tour (currently the Korn Ferry Tour) and won his card for 2018.

At this new level, he did quite well, as he picked up a win (2018 Nashville Golf Open) and finished seventh on the money list to earn his PGA Tour membership for the following season.

Cameron Davis' PGA Tour career at a glance

The first full season for Cameron Davis on the PGA Tour was the 2018-2019 season. He struggled to adjust to this level, missing 12 cuts in 25 tournaments and finishing in just four Top 25s.

However, the following season, Davis was much better and was even included in the Top 100 of the FedEx Cup. A year later came the definitive takeoff of his career at this level, winning the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Over the next two seasons (2021-2022 and 2022-2023), Davis was unable to return to the winner's circle, but he did establish himself as a consistent player at the PGA Tour level. In that period, he played 53 tournaments and finished in 20 Top 25s, including 13 Top 10s.

Davis' overall performance on the PGA Tour includes 131 tournaments played with 85 cuts made. He has finished in 18 Top 10s, which include his victory at the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic and four other Top 5s.

Following the 2023 season, Davis is ranked 44th in the Official World Golf Rankings and finished in the Top 50 at the FedEx Cup. This earned him his PGA Tour card for 2024 and access to the season's eight Signature Events.
