American golfer Michael Block is currently ranked No. 3,580 in the OWGR. However, his incredible performance at the ongoing 2023 PGA Championship does not justify his rank.

Block made the cut at the second major of the season and is currently ranked tied 10th on the leaderboard. As a matter of fact, he was ranked as high as second on the leaderboard in the ongoing tournament.

As per the official PGA Tour website, Michael Block spoke with the media on Friday after round 1 at the ongoing 2023 PGA Championship.

"I'm just your local club pro. That's what I do. I don't hit balls. People think I've got the best job in the world. I do have a great job. I have a very supportive club that lets me go play, but the amount of times I hit a bucket of balls is not even once a week," he said.

Who is Michael Block?

Born on Jun 15, 1976, Block is an American professional golfer who plays at the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo. Initially, he was part of Mississippi State's college golf team but later moved to the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Michael Block has a degree in golf course management that he got from San Diego Golf Academy.

His career started almost two decades ago. In 1998, he turned assistant pro at The Lakes Country Club in Palm Desert, California, and continued until 2004. Later on, he joined the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club and has been a head golf professional since then. Finally, in 2012, he earned the membership of PGA of America.

In his more than two-decade-long career, Michael Block has been a part of six majors — two US Open and five PGA Championships. The 2023 Championship is his seventh major.

He has had 24 starts on the PGA Tour, with a highest ranking of T69 in the 2014 Sanderson Farms Championship.

What did Michael Block say after hitting 45 degrees and low?

In the ongoing 105th PGA Championship, Michael Block's performance has garnered plenty of attention.

During round 1, the 46-year-old hit a 45-degree shot that hit a tree and turned back onto the rough, which was about 60 yards from the par-3 fifth hole.

Block himself was stunned by the shot and said:

"It was a nice little 8-iron, front-left pin. I love hitting baby draw with my 8-iron. I've done it well all week, and all of a sudden we've all been there, done that, and we look up, and I'm, like, Oh, my goodness."

In fact, according to Block, he was fortunate to make a double bogey. He added:

"The ball was just going off, somehow hit the tree, almost killed somebody, and then comes off and goes in the deep rough, and I was actually fortunate enough to make a double bogey after that, after just making a bogey on the hole before being in the middle of the fairway with a 60-degree wedge in my hand."

Block earned his spot at the 2023 PGA Championship after finishing tied second in the recently concluded PGA Professional Championship.
