“Lot of blood, sweat, and tears” – 2023 PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka opens up on his fifth major victory

2023 PGA Championship - Final Round
Brooks Koepka won the his third PGA Championship title on Sunday

Brooks Koepka claimed his third PGA Championship title on Sunday, beating Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland by two-stroke margins. After winning at the Oak Hill, he termed it as the 'most meaningful' win of all the five major victories.

"It feels damned good. Yeah, this one is definitely special," he admitted. "I think this one is probably the most meaningful of them all with everything that's gone on, all the crazy stuff over the last few years."
"It feels good to be back and to get No. 5."

The fifth major came four years since he last triumphed at the major tournaments (2019 PGA Championship). In the 2017-19 stretch, Koepka won four majors from eight starts and also climbed to World No. 1 in OWGR. Besides, he also finished T2 at Masters and T4 at Open Championship in 2019.

In these four years, Koepka suffered from a career-threatening injury, and a slump in form, and subsequently decided to switch to the LIV Golf. His problems didn't end just there as he continued to struggle at the start of this season.

Nevertheless, fortune took a turn for the former World No. 1 when he claimed his first win of this season at LIV Golf's Orlando event in April. Then he finished joint runner-up at the Masters Tournament after leading for most of the week.

This time he didn't repeat the last month's mistake shooting a 67 in the fourth round to win his third PGA Championship title.

"When I look back at where we were two years ago I’m just so happy right now. I’m kind of at a loss for words. This is the coolest thing."
"There’s a lot of blood, sweat and tears that have gone into this one. Life has changed a lot for me but this one is super gratifying for me," he was quoted saying via pressassociation.com.
