Michael Block's incredible journey has made the 2023 PGA Championship all the more memorable and he has certainly gained a lot of new fans over the weekend. With his skillful play and love for golf, the 46-year-old club pro pulled off a T15 finish at the Championship. Needless to say, he had his ups and downs, with one especially disastrous shank in the second round.

However, Block made the most of his teaching experience and immediately implemented changes into his swing to avoid disaster. Analyzing his tee shot, which hit a tree and landed in the rough, he claimed that his hands were too far away from his body.

Block said:

"What I like to do is set up to the golf ball and then actually swing and hit the ground on the inside of the golf ball — like not even hit the ball — on a practice swing. So just take it, hit it inside the golf ball a couple of times and feel that space. And to get those hands in tight."

Block's shank caught the attention of golf fans on Twitter. Here are some of the Tweets reacting to his botched shot:

Michael Block corrected his swing using technique that he teaches his students

Michael Block used his own drill that he often teaches players to correct their swing. Keeping his hands close to his body was the most important part of correcting himself. While his shank looked like a disaster at the moment, it was instrumental in him eventually making the cut at the PGA Championship. He said:

"If you watch a lot of the best players in the world, their hands are extremely close to their body at the moment of impact. A lot of the worst players in the world, their hands are far away from their body at the moment of impact."

Michael Block proved to be extremely consistent under unpredictable weather conditions and what proved to be a difficult course for many. He shot a 70 (par) for three rounds before shooting a 71 in his final round, which meant he finished T15 at the event; the best finish by a club pro in 37 years.

Talking about his dream weekend, Block said:

"I came to the golf course today at Oak Hill and played in the PGA Championship. If it makes any sense, the one thing in the world that makes me cry is golf. If that puts into context as far as how much I love the game, you know now. It’s everything to me."

After an amazing weekend, Michael Block will now get ready for next week's Charles Schwab Challenge, for which he received a sponsor exemption after finishing T15 at the PGA Championship.
