Corales Puntacana Championship

Formerly on the Web.com Tour, the Corales Puntacana Championship is a PGA Tour event held in the Dominican Republic. The inaugural performance took place at the Puntacana Resort and Club, located on the province of La Altagracia's east coast, in 2016.

It moved to a PGA Tour alternate event (across from the WGC Match Play in Texas) in March 2018 after two years as a Web.com Tour event. The first PGA Tour tournament to be hosted in the Dominican Republic offers rewards akin to those of other non-primary events: a two-year tour exemption, 24 OWGR points, and 300 FedEx Cup points for the winner.

The first event took place in early June of 2016 and was rescheduled for early May of 2017. The 2020 event was moved to September to coincide with the 2020–21 PGA Tour season due to the COVID-19 epidemic. In addition, it was given full FedEx Cup point status, and the champion was invited to the Masters Tournament in 2021.

Who won the PGA Corales Puntacana Championship in 2024?

Billy Horschel won the 2024 Corales Puntacana Championship at Corales Golf Club in the Dominican Republic, earning him his eighth career PGA Tour victory. The $720,000 winner's share of the $4,000,000 purse went to him. A decade earlier, Horschel won the 2014 FedEx Cup as well.

Horschel led the PGA Tour after closing the round with a 9-under 63 to lead the field in the event held across from the RBC Heritage. On 23-under 265, Horschel defeated Wesley Bryan by two strokes, and Kevin Tway finished in solo third place with a 19-under total. On an 18-under score, Charley Hoffman and Justin Lower tied for fourth place.

Who won the PGA Corales Puntacana Championship in 2023?

As Matt Wallace discovered in 2023, winning the PGA Tour's Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic comes with some fantastic rewards, even though the purse is small in comparison to the sums at stake at the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship.

At Puntacana Resort & Club in the Dominican Republic, the 32-year-old Englishman—who was ranked No. 172 in the world ranking coming into the week—rose to the occasion, winning his first PGA Tour match in his 80th career start with a six-under-66. Wallace, competing for the first time in three years on tour, defeated Nicolai Hojgaard by one stroke with a 19-under-269 total. His current OWGR ranking is No. 68.

Wallace, a four-time DP World Tour winner, secured his spot on the PGA Tour through the 2025 season with the win. He is also assured of a position in the PGA Championship at Oak Hill, the Memorial, and the next RBC Heritage, which are all scheduled events this season. Additionally, it guarantees his spot in the field for the 2024 Players Championship and Sentry Tournament of Champions, two events recognized by the new PGA Tour format.

Moreover, out of the $3.8 million total purse, there is the $684,000 first-place prize payout. That's significant given that Wallace's largest earnings to date on the PGA Tour were $575,000, which he earned for finishing third in the 2019 PGA Championship.
