"Tears in my eyes", "That's good news" - Fans feel Arsenal summer signing has dropped hint that he’s staring against Everton

Arsenal fans have concluded that goalkeeper David Raya is going to be picked ahead of Aaron Ramsdale to face Everton on Sunday (September 17).

Raya hasn't made a competitive appearance for the Gunners since joining them from Brentford on loan with an option to buy. The Spanish shot-stopper has played second fiddle to Ramsdale who has kept one clean sheet in five games across competitions.

However, the 27-year-old may be handed his debut by Mikel Arteta against Everton judging by his Instagram story. He has uploaded a poster promoting himself and the game between the two sides.

There were reports earlier this month claiming Raya was putting increasing pressure on Ramsdale to displace him as Arteta's new No.1. The Arsenal boss may be enticed to tinker with his side against Sean Dyche's struggling Toffees.

The Gunners have made a superb start to the season, sitting fifth with three wins and one draw from four games. They will return to UEFA Champions League football for the first time since 2017 this Wednesday. They face PSV Eindhoven and Ramsdale could be rested for that game giving Raya an opportunity at Goodison Park.

Raya flourished at Brentford last season before his loan move to the Emirates this summer. He made 39 appearances across competitions, keeping 12 clean sheets. The Spaniard is comfortable with the ball at his feet and may gel well with Arteta's style of play.

One Arsenal fan is happy with the idea of the Spain international starting against Everton:

"If this is true then that’s good news, especially for Everton away. We need a goalie that will come for crosses and not stay on his line, especially with a big long ball team like Everton. Need to take the pressure off the defence"

Another fan also wants to see Raya make his debut:

"Tears in my eyes we are back."

Here's how fans on X (formerly Twitter) reacted to Raya's intriguing Instagram story:

Arsenal trio could reportedly make rare starts against Everton

Reports claim that Arteta is contemplating also handing starts to Fabio Vieira, Jorginho, and Reiss Nelson against Everton. The trio have lacked game time this season, with all three being chosen on the bench before being subbed on.

Vieira has shown vast improvement from his debut campaign last time out. He has made two assists in just three games across competitions. The Portuguese playmaker stepped off the bench in Arsenal's 3-1 win against Manchester United and helped turn the tide in the north Londoners' favor.

Meanwhile, Jorginho has only made three substitute appearances amounting to 17 minutes this season. The Italian was linked with a departure in the summer but his agent played down a move to Fenerbahce.

Nelson has only had one minute under his belt this season but he too is under consideration. This may allow either Bukayo Saka or Gabriel Martinelli to be given a well-deserved rest. Both were on international duty this past week and their game time is racking up.
