"It will be emotional" - Mark Lawrenson predicts result of Jurgen Klopp's final Liverpool game as they face Wolverhampton

Former Brighton & Hove Albion defender Mark Lawrenson has predicted the result of Liverpool's final game under Jurgen Klopp. The Reds take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at home in their final league game of the season on Sunday (May 19).

The Jurgen Klopp era at Anfield is drawing to a close after nine eventful seasons that yielded all available titles except the UEFA Europa League, where the Reds fell in the quarterfinals to Atalanta this season.

In fact, the Reds were on course for an unprecedented quadruple in Klopp's final season in charge but got knocked out in the FA Cup quarterfinals by Manchester United and by Atalanta in the Europa League.

To add insult to injury, Klopp's side slipped out of contention in what was turning out to be a three-horse title race. Nevertheless, they are poised for a top-three finish and a return to the Champions League. To make the occasion special, Klopp will oversee his final Reds game at Anfield.

Lawrenson reckons Klopp's side should coast to a comfortable win against a Wolves side that have won just once in nine league games, losing six, including the last two. He wrote in his prediction colunmn:

"It will be emotional. You can’t buy any handkerchiefs around Anfield. They’re all sold out apparently! Wolves have been disappointing in the last few weeks, so I’ll go for a comfortable home win. Liverpool 3-1 Wolves."

The Reds won the reverse fixture 3-1 at Wolves on matchday five.

Liverpool vs Wolverhampton Wanderers: A few tidbits

Liverpool have a dominant recent record against Wolverhampton Wanderers, winning 13 of their last 14 Premier League meetings. That includes six straight wins at Anfield, the venue of their latest clash this weekend.

The Reds have had a leaky defence, though, going 10 home league games without a clean sheet for the first time in 70 years. Star striker Mohamed Salah is poised to make his 250th appearance for the club since arriving from AS Roma in the summer of 2017.

The last six Liverpool bosses have failed to sign off with a win in the final game of a season. Will Klopp - with a record of 298 wins and 83 losses in 490 games in charge since 2016 - buck the trend?
