“Arsenal will find it tough to break through” - Jamie Carragher predicts winner of Gunners’ final league game v Everton

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has predicted Arsenal to beat Everton in their final Premier League game of the season on Sunday, May 19. He reckons the north London side will beat the Toffees 3-0.

The Gunners need to win to have a shot at winning the title but it wouldn't be enough. They would also need Manchester City to slip up against West Ham United.

Carragher reckons it won't be a walk in the park for Mikel Arteta's side as Everton are solid defensively. He, however, thinks that the north Londoners will eventually find their rhythm against the Merseysiders. Sharing his prediction for Sky Sports, the boyhood Everton fan said (via Goodison News):

"Arsenal will find it tough to break through as Everton are good defensively, but they'll enjoy the second half and finish off what has been a great season for Mikel Arteta's men."

The Gunners currently have 86 points from 37 matches, two lesser than league leaders Manchester City. However, they possess a superior goal difference to City's by one goal.

Everton, meanwhile, are 15th with 40 points from 37 games. Sean Dyche's team are facing a challenge from Brentford to hold on to their position in the league table.

Mikel Arteta addresses the football math surrounding Arsenal's clash against Everton

Mikel Arteta is currently involved in a unique situation in many regards. He is dueling against Manchester City, a club he served as assistant manager, for the Premier League title.

On the other hand, Arsenal play Everton, a club Arteta represented for a long time in his playing career, in their final game. West Ham, currently coached by the Spaniard's former manager David Moyes, can be the Gunners' savior. Addressing the equations, Arteta said (via the Gunners' website):

"That's the beauty of this industry, that you come across people that you had experiences with in your life and it's super important for you personally, and now you need something from them. Hopefully it will happen."

While his team's chances of winning the Premier League are slim, Arteta isn't ready to give up. That said, a dramatic final-day upset needs to take place for the Gunners to be crowned champions.
