Will come back to India for ISL next season: Delhi Dynamos star John Arne Riise

Delhi have been one of the better teams this ISL

John Arne Riise has confirmed to Sportskeeda in an exclusive interview that he’ll be returning to the Indian Super League next season having signed a two-year contract with the Delhi Dynamos. When asked about his next career move, Riise responded that he is looking forward to return next season, and is likely to return to Norway to play with his brother once this season gets over.

Riise said, “I’m here until December and I’ll return next season to play with Delhi Dynamos. I really don’t know what I’m going to do in between, maybe return to Norway to play with my brother. “

The 35-year-old also talked about his Indian Super League experience so far, and admitted talking to former Atletico de Kolkata skipper Luis Garcia and Liverpool teammate Luis Garcia before coming to India.

He said, “It’s been good, you never know what to expect when you come here. I spoke to Luis Garcia before coming here and he only said good things. I’m enjoying it, and so far we’ve played a lot of away games, and we have to travel a lot. We’ve got nine points so far, and I’m pleased with it.”

Delhi Dynamos have nine points from their first five games, and Riise is quite pleased with the performace so far, but he wants his team to respond after their poor performance against Mumbai City FC.

“It’s a good start because we’ve played four away games out of five, and after Atletico de Kolkata we’ve four home games so hopefully we can get more points at home. It’s an okay start we lost our first game 2-0 against FC Goa, but we played quite good. Our worst game was against Mumbai City FC, we played very bad in that game and we have to respond against Atletico de Kolkata tomorrow,” he added.

Riise also shared his opinion on what Indian players need to do to make it to the European leagues saying one of primary reasons he came to India was to share his experience with the Indian players and help them improve.

He said, “It’ll take time for them and they need to learn from a younger age. That’s why players like myself and Malouda come here from the bigger leagues to share our experience. I can see a lot of improvements already since I have been here so we try our best to help the Indian players and show them what they need to do to get better.”

Delhi Dynamos face a difficult away game against Atletico de Kolkata tomorrow at the Saltlake Stadium.
