Third person in Apex Legends is officially available, but it is exclusive to the training mode where you can shoot down dummies in a confined space. However, the online lobbies remain in first-person perspective (FPP) with no third-person perspective (TPP) mode. This means you can surf around the Firing Range and look at your favorite legends from a completely different view.

Third person in Apex Legends has never been the primary perspective for all game modes, be it casual matches or ranked lobbies. The game was crafted around the first-person mode due to its fast-paced battles and intricate movement mechanics.

This article will highlight how you can enable third person in Apex Legends.

You can follow the steps listed below to play Apex Legends in third person instead of first-person mode:

  • Turn on your game client and let any pending updates download and install.
  • Launch your game and click on the tile above the Ready button to select a different mode.
  • Click on Firing Range and then click on Ready to enter the training mode.

  • Once you have loaded in, press and hold the Customize Range button and head over to the 3rd Person View option.
  • Then, click on On to enable the third person in Apex Legends.
  • Exit the menu and you will see the camera has shifted backward and you can see the entire character on your screen.

Note that third person in Apex Legends is only enabled for the training modes and the firing range. As soon as you leave the lobby and enter the main menu, it will be disabled and you will play the game in FPP. There are no solid merits to playing this game in TPP mode, but the developers took note of the community’s request to make this option available.

While this is the only way to play the game in a third-person perspective, you can enter this unique view mode in an actual online match. You can do so by equipping different emotes on your selected legend and using them after you have landed on the map. This will pull away the camera for a while and enable free-look around your character.

However, this can put you in a vulnerable spot as enemies can spot you idling on the map and launch an assault on you. If you are a competitive player, it is best not to start emoting in a match as it can potentially lead you to losing the match.
