Twitter was flooded with reactions after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed for just nine runs off 12 balls in the 2024 IPL game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, April 28. Opening the innings for the hosts, the 35-year-old once again failed to provide a solid start.

Rahane has been poor with the bat so far this season, managing just 170 runs in nine matches at a strike-rate of 123.19. He has been criticized widely for his form and batting approach from fans and pundits alike.

Here's a look at some reactions on X (formerly Twitter) following Ajinkya Rahane's dismissal for nine runs against SRH at Chepauk on Sunday evening:

"35(30), 5(8), 36(24), 1(3), 9(12). These are Ajinkya Rahane's scores in the last 5 innings he has played in this IPL. I'm afraid today's match can be his last IPL match as well if CSK loses," a fan wrote.
"Not sure why CSK playing with Mr Rahane ..it’s a waste of resources ..brainless team selection," another fan vented.
"Retire asap Rahane. Enough of this Terrorism," a fan expressed.
"Unpopular Opinion: Instead of Rahane if CSK sends me to open the inning, I can score with better sr than Ajinkya Rahane," a fan boldly proclaimed.
"Ajinkya rahane ❌ Ajinkya purane ✅" another fan wrote.
"Ajinkya Rahane is back to his vintage avatar.Throwing his wicket after earing balls and after bringing strike rate down in power play," one fan posted.

Inconsistent CSK continue push for IPL 2024 playoffs

Defending champions CSK have been highly inconsistent in the ongoing edition of the IPL. After winning the first two home matches, the Men in Yellow suffered two successive away defeats. Once again, they won the next two fixtures before losing their last two clashes, both against the Lucknow Super Giants.

Currently with eight points from as many matches, the five-time IPL winners are placed sixth in the points table. Next up, they will face Punjab Kings at home on Wednesday, May 1.
