Mitchell Marsh won’t feature in the fourth Test at Sydney

Allrounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the fourth Test match against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) after it emerged that he won’t be able to recover sufficiently from the hamstring injury he suffered during the second Test at the Gabba.

"Mitchell Marsh had scans on his injured hamstring this morning after reporting some soreness yesterday," Alex Kountouris, the team physiotherapist, said. "The scans confirm that he has suffered a setback in his rehab and will not be available for the Sydney Test match. Our focus for Mitchell will now be on his return to one-day cricket as we lead into the tri-series."

Marsh had been replaced by Joe Burns for the Boxing Day Test in the hope that he will be alright for Sydney, but that wasn’t the case as the 23-year-old felt a slight tweak in his hamstring while running after play on the first day of the ongoing third Test.

The former Australian Under-19 captain is likely to be included in the final 15-man Australia squad for the World Cup, and the Australian team management will dearly hope that he gets some match fitness under his belt during the tri-series, involving England and India, that precedes the all-important 50-over event.

Marsh made his Test debut against Pakistan in the UAE in October, and he has impressed in his short Test career so far, scoring 262 runs from his 4 Tests at an average just under 40.
