Elorda Cup 2024: Nikhat Zareen and Minakshi end the campaign with gold medals

Defending world champion boxer from India Nikhat Zareen secured a gold medal alongside her fellow compatriot Minakshi as the Indian contingent ended the Elorda Cup 2024 competition with a total of 12 medals in Astana, Kazakhstan, on Saturday, May 18.

Nikhat continued her dominance in the prestigious campaign as she outperformed Zhazira Urakbayeva from Kazakhstan in the 52 kg category bout with a 5-0 scoreline to add yet another gold medal to her cabinet.

On the other hand, Minakshi began the day for India on an impressive note after defeating Uzbekistan's Rahmonova Saidahon 4-1 in the women’s 48 kg category final bout to secure the gold medal.

Unfortunately, Anamika, in the 50 kg category, and Manisha, in the 60 kg category, lost their respective final bouts and settled for the silver medals.

Alongside two gold and as many silver medals, Indian boxers also secured eight bronze medals in the just concluded campaign to better their last year’s Elorda Cup record of five medals.

Anamika, in the 50 kg category final bout, fought hard but had to suffer a 1-4 loss over Wu Yu from China, the reigning world and Asian champion. Meanwhile, Manisha faced a 0-5 defeat over Viktoriya Grafeeva from Kazakhstan.

Yaiphaba Singh Soibam, Abhishek Yadav, Vishal, Gaurav Chauhan, Sonu, Manju Bamboriya, Shalakha Singh, and Monika were the bronze medallists from India.

Importantly, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) fielded a 21-member squad for the just concluded Elorda Cup 2024. The competition had strong boxing participants from top boxing nations like Kazakhstan, China, India, Japan, and Uzbekistan.
