The ROH World Tag Team Champion may be out for a while.

Adam Cole was riding high through the summer as the ROH World Tag Team Champion alongside his partner, MJF. The rivals-turned-friends were front and center on weekly television for both AEW and Ring of Honor until tragedy struck. At Dynamite: Grand Slam on September 20, Cole injured his ankle while running out to save MJF in the main event.

While many fans hoped that he would be able to recover quickly, the former NXT Champion delivered some devastating news the following week. He had broken his ankle in three places and would require surgery. This brought an abrupt end to any plans for Cole and MJF for the time being, as Adam is not expected to be back for a while.

Fans have been showering Cole with love on social media and in the chat during his frequent Twitch streams. The 34-year-old took to Twitter earlier today to send out a message of heartfelt thanks to all his supporters. He vowed to do everything in his power to get back to work soon.

"Emotionally, this has been the most challenging injury of my career. Without question. Thank you to EVERYONE who has reached out & shown support. Means more than you know. I will do everything in my power to get back to work doing what I love to do. Because I’m #AdamColeBayBay," Adam Cole shared.

Latest update on Adam Cole's road to recovery

Ankle injuries are an unfortunately common occurrence in professional wrestling, but Adam Cole's condition seems especially severe. Cole seems to be in good spirits and recently showed off a new look, but it is unknown how long he might be away from the ring.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently dropped an update on Cole's status, stating that the 34-year-old has already completed two surgeries on his ankle.

"Adam Cole had both ankle surgeries, with the second one being on 10/12. There is no word how long he will be out of action," Dave Meltzer wrote.

It still remains unclear whether Cole will be able to return to the ring before 2024, but his fans remain optimistic. In the meantime, MJF has been valiantly defending the ROH World Tag Team Titles by himself, but whether he can hold out until his partner returns remains to be seen.
